Overview
Description
This assessment measures your general knowledge of basic networking concepts, System Network Architecture (SNA), as well as Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM) concepts and TCP/IP features and protocols. It also tests skills associated with entering appropriate VTAM commands, TCP/IP commands and the interpretation of command displays and VTAM system messages.
Prerequisites
A good general knowledge of the z/OS Communications Server, VTAM concepts, and common network terminology. The following courses have been used as reference for this assessment:
- Comms – Network and Communications Concepts 3.1
- Comms – Mainframe Network Architecture 3.1
- Comms – Monitoring and Controlling VTAM 3.1
- Comms – Monitoring and Controlling TCP/IP 3.1
Additional on-the-job training in the areas above should also be undertaken to prepare you for scenario-based questions that have been included in this assessment.
Audience
This assessment is designed for data center staff responsible for the operation and monitoring of the z/OS SNA and TCP/IP networks, or IT specialists that are required to have an understanding of the same.
Objectives
This assessment covers the following topics:
- z/OS Communications Server functionality
- SNA and APPN concepts
- VTAM functionality and terminology
- VTAM Startup and Shutdown
- Format and syntax of VTAM commands
- Interpretation of VTAM displays and messages
- Entering of VTAM commands to display, activate and deactivate VTAM resources
- Standard TCP/IP commands invoked from the mainframe
- Commands used to start and stop TCP/IP and its related processes
Assessment Detail
This assessment contains 45 questions that will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. Ten minutes before this time limit has expired, a warning message will be displayed. If the assessment is exited before the last question is displayed, or the assessment exceeds its time limit, scores based only on the questions that you have answered will be recorded. The question types in this assessment are mainly simulation, multiple choice, drag and drop, and true or false. The questions displayed are different for every examinee because a number of core questions are always selected along with a number that are taken from a pool. All questions are then randomized to produce your customized assessment. Note that IBM Redbooks may be used for reference, but extensive use may result in failure to meet timing requirements.
Pass Mark
The pass mark for this assessment is 70%.
